AUCEA is registered as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (ACN 147 869 207). The AUCEA Board is elected annually at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and comprises two executive positions – the Chair and the Deputy Chair – and 8 other Directors. The AUCEA Constitution allows for up ten (10) persons to be elected and/or co-opted to the Board.
All Directors are required to maintain a strong strategic “whole-of-organisation” focus, while drawing upon their own knowledge, experience and understanding of University-Community Engagement to build and strengthen AUCEA and the higher education sector. And all AUCEA Directors agree to support the AUCEA Charter and our primary object is to:
Lead and facilitate the development of best practice University-Community Engagement in Australia.
AUCEA’s supporting objects are to:
(a) Provide an inclusive forum for the discussion and development of university-community engagement, encouraging collaboration, innovation, the exchange of knowledge and the scholarship of engagement;
(b) Promote scholarly practice and mutually beneficial engagement;
(c) Foster awareness and build capacity in university-community engagement best practise;
(d) Facilitate collaborative research in university-community engagement within and beyond our organisation;
(e) Promote the integration of engagement into curriculum and the student experience;
(f) Promote the recognition of the scholarship of engagement as a valid pedagogy;
(g) Collaboratively develop resources that support university-community engagement; and
(h) Do all other lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of these objects.

Professor Peter Creamer
President/Chair

Pro Vice-Chancellor – Victoria University
Peter spent much of his early career working within the aerospace field for companies such as Rolls Royce, Lucas Aerospace and the European Gas Turbine Company. Following this, Peter moved from industry into academia and worked for two periods amounting to 7 years in Singapore during an era of intensive development of two new major Polytechnics. Peter also had a short spell of working in South Africa as a Director for a medium sized company working during a period of intensive political change.
Peter then moved to the University of Portsmouth focussing on the development of mutually beneficial industry / academia partnerships for a period of 7 years. Peter moved to Anglia Ruskin University as Pro Vice Chancellor (Corporate Development). At Anglia Ruskin for 3 years, Peter had particular responsibility for building business partnerships, developing research and development activities as well as being responsible for all marketing, international, IT and business engagement activities.
Peter then joined Victoria University in July 2007 and now has the title Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Information Officer. His current responsibilities are for Development and Alumni, Corporate Events, Sponsorship matters, Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Web Futures Group, Information Technology Systems, Program Management Office and various major business improvement related projects.
Peter is committed to building mutually beneficial partnerships between the University and external communities of all types.

Dr Pierre Viljoen
Deputy Chair
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Community & Engagement) & Head of Campus Mackay. Dr Viljoen holds a PhD in Industrial Psychology, is a registered psychologist with the Psychologists Board of Queensland and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. He has worked in Academia in South Africa for 14 years in a variety of roles and for the past four years in Australia. Pierre has a passion for Organisational Development and has consulting experience in a variety of sectors.

Jude Butcher
Director
Jude is the Director of the Institute for Advancing Community Engagement at Australian Catholic University with its Community Engagement agenda of “Beyond Today”, focusing upon hope for a better tomorrow through the themes of “Beyond Disadvantage”, “Beyond Borders” and “Beyond Differences”. In 2010 he was appointed a Member (AM) in the Order of Australia for service to teacher education, particularly in the Catholic sector, and to the community through contributions to social justice. His special research interests are in the areas of community engagement; capacity building and development; and transformational partnerships.

Associate Professor Diana Whitton
Director
Dr Diana Whitton is an associate professor at the University of Western Sydney in education with responsibilities for teaching pre‐service primary education and service learning. She has completed graduate studies in service learning and oversees the placement and teaching of up to 500 students a year in local community agencies. Dr Whitton’s current research is a longitudinal study of the new service‐learning unit at UWS and has previously presented and published on her work about Students in Free Enterprise [SIFE] and service learning. Currently she is one of the editors of the AUCEA ejournal.

Jacqui Martin
Director
Executive Director Marketing & Engagement – La Trobe University
As Executive Director, Marketing & Engagement, Jacqui is primarily responsible for the strategic marketing planning, brand management, e-marketing and web strategy, domestic student recruitment, media and PR communications, and market research.
Amongst Jacqui’s achievements have been the award-winning redevelopment and implementation of the University’s brand as well as the development of lead generation marketing programs, resulting in significant increases in market share. The recent elite sporting partnership signing between La Trobe and Melbourne Heat FC is testimony to her passion and commitment in engaging the university with the community.
Jacqui graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor and Master of Education. She held a number of positions in the Department of Education, Tasmania including responsibility for developing and implementing the curriculum for the distance education program. Following her successes with the Department, Jacqui held project management roles in developing online service delivery projects and implementing communications, promotions and marketing strategies for the Tasmanian Government.
Jacqui held Marketing Director positions at the Canberra Institute of Technology and the University of Canberra, before commencing at La Trobe University in March 2006. Jacqui has built the Marketing and Engagement Division at La Trobe into a high-performing, results driven team, that brings together, across the University, a broad range of related marketing, communication and engagement functions.

Carol-Joy Patrick
Director
Carol-joy has 20 years experience in Work Integrated Learning. She managed the Industrial Affiliates Program (IAP), a flagship WIL program at Griffith University for 18 years; chaired the Griffith WIL Working Party for many years; co-founded ACEN (Australian Collaborative Education Network) nationally and in Queensland in 2006.
She has researched the relationship of generic skills to WIL, co-authoring a set of toolkits to enable the embedding of generic skills in the curriculum, The Griffith Toolkits, including a WIL specific toolkit – Professional Skills. She was a project leader for two Australian Learning and Teaching Council projects The WIL Report: A Scoping Study (2009) and LEADING WIL: distributed leadership approach to enhance Work Integrated Learning outcomes (Current). Carol-joy is presently using her extensive WIL experience to introduce a suite of service learning elective courses across Griffith University and was the host of the first and second Service Learning Summits in Australia early in 2011 and 2012.

Traci Gamblin
Director
Traci Gamblin is Senior Manager Development with Volunteering WA where she manages its Youth Services and Corporate Volunteering programs, working closely with the education and corporate sectors to further develop their volunteering infrastructure. Traci recently established Australia’s first Corporate Volunteer Council with business leaders in WA. She also convenes the Tertiary Community Engagement Committee at Volunteering WA to encourage discussion on volunteering issues between universities and student guilds. Prior to her current role, Traci managed the youth development programs at the Australian Red Cross.
